The donkeys of each neighborhood compete for the Palio in a competitive race in the crowded square, an exciting mix of exuberant irreverence and historical re-enactment.

Stubborn and unpredictable, they buck and kick, stop suddenly to then run in the opposite direction, creating a hectic, beloved, unrepeatable spectacle.

To kick off the day, the majestic historical parade with over 1000 participants.

Equally choreographic is the parade of flag-wavers who skilfully make the colored drapes twirl in the air in front of the many visitors who have come to experience the vibrant soul of medieval Alba.
