The elegant Civic Tower of Nizza Monferrato is among the main attractions of the city and constitutes one of its most beloved symbols. Standing at over 30 meters tall, the tower is affectionately known to the locals as "Campanon" (Big Bell) for the large bronze bell housed within it.
Surviving the Savoy siege of 1613, the bell was melted down during World War II to make cannons: ironically, two cannonballs are still visible embedded in the north wall of the tower.
